FAQs: Deactivating a Brokerage or Bank Account

You can deactivate a linked brokerage or bank account through your Account Settings. We’ve put together these FAQs to help make managing your connected accounts as smooth as possible

Q: How do I deactivate a brokerage account?

  1. Go to Settings and click Edit in your profile.

  2. Select Brokerage Account Information.

  3. Choose the brokerage account you want to deactivate.

  4. Click Deactivate Account in the bottom right corner.

Review the confirmation screen and click Confirm Deactivation.

Q: How do I deactivate a bank account?

  1. Go to Settings > Edit Profile > Bank Account Information.

  2. Select the bank account you want to deactivate.

  3. Click Deactivate Account.

  4. Follow the prompts to confirm deactivation or select a replacement account for future distributions.

Q: What happens to my data after deactivation?

When you deactivate an account:

  • It is hidden from your view.

  • It is marked as inactive in our system.

  • We retain the record for compliance and historical transaction tracking.

  • It cannot be used for new transactions.

Q: Why is the “Deactivate Account” button disabled?

At least one active bank account is required to invest or sell.

If you only have one bank account on file, the Deactivate Account button will be disabled. To deactivate an account, you must first add a new active bank account.

Q: Can I deactivate an account if I am investing in an active deal?

This depends on the stage of your transaction:

  • If an ACH or wire transfer has not been initiated:
    You can deactivate the account. You will be prompted to select or add a replacement account to proceed with the transaction.

  • If an ACH or wire transfer has been initiated:

    You cannot deactivate the account. You will see a “Cannot Deactivate Account” message with a link to contact support@equityzen.com.

Q: I have an IRA profile. Can I deactivate my bank account?

Self-service deactivation is not available for accounts linked to an active IRA. To update your IRA banking information, please contact support@equityzen.com.

Q: What happens to future distributions if I deactivate an account?

If the account is tied to active positions or pending exits:

  1. You will see an Update Distribution Account screen.

  2. Select a New Distribution Account from your existing active accounts.

  3. Confirm your selection.

All future proceeds (including distributions or exit event funds) will be automatically routed to the new account.
